Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains, in practical and specific terms, how Raloden Journal uses cookies and similar small browser files on raloden.info, why each one is used, how long it stays on a visitor's device, and how a reader can change their choice at any time. It is intended to be read alongside the Privacy Policy, which explains in more detail how any personal data connected to the site is handled, and the two documents should be treated as complementary rather than duplicative. Cookies described here fall into a small number of practical categories used by this site: a strictly necessary session file, a preference file that remembers a cookie choice, an optional analytics category that remains switched off until a visitor actively selects it, and an optional functional category tied to specific interface conveniences. No cookie on this site is used to build an advertising profile of an individual reader, no cookie is shared with an advertising network, and no cookie is used to track a reader's activity across unrelated third-party websites.

1. Scope of this document

This policy applies to every page published under the raloden.info domain, including the homepage, article pages, the about and methodology pages, and the contact page, and it covers every cookie or comparable browser storage mechanism set through those pages. It does not extend to any third-party website that a reader may reach by following an outbound link from an article, since such sites operate under their own separate cookie and privacy notices that Raloden does not control. It also does not cover any offline interaction with Raloden, such as a telephone call or a letter sent to the postal address given in Section 9, because no cookie technology is involved in those channels. Where a future feature introduces a new category of cookie not already described below, this document will be revised before that feature is activated, and the revision will be recorded in the change log in Section 10.

2. What a cookie is, in practical terms

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks a browser to store, usually containing a randomly generated identifier, a stored preference, or an expiry date rather than a name or a home address. Cookies are read only by the site that set them, or by a service the site has specifically authorised to do so, and they cannot reach into unrelated files stored elsewhere on a device or inspect other browser tabs. Some cookies exist only for the length of a single browsing session and disappear automatically when the browser is closed, while others are designed to persist for a set number of months so that a choice does not need to be repeated on every visit. Raloden aims to use the smallest number of cookies, and the smallest amount of information within each one, that is reasonably needed to support a specific, named feature described in the sections below.

3. Data collected through cookies

The data stored in Raloden's cookies is limited to a randomly generated session or consent identifier, a timestamp marking when a choice was made, and, where the optional analytics category is active, a coarse record of the page path viewed together with an approximate visit time and general browser characteristics such as screen width. None of these values are designed to directly identify a named individual, and Raloden does not attempt to combine cookie data with any other source, such as a contact form submission, to build a personal profile of a specific reader. No cookie used on this site collects precise location data, financial information, or any of the special categories of data described in Section 3 of the Privacy Policy. Where the analytics category is enabled, the resulting records are aggregated for editorial review and are not used to make any automated decision that would produce a legal or similarly significant effect on a reader.

4. Legal basis for setting each cookie category

The strictly necessary session cookie described in Section 5 is set on the basis of legitimate interest in operating a functional website, since it is required for basic page behaviour and cannot reasonably be disabled through a consent mechanism without breaking the page. The preference cookie described in Section 6, which records a visitor's consent choice, is also treated as strictly necessary, since its sole purpose is to remember the outcome of the consent process itself. The optional analytics and functional categories described in Sections 7 and 8 are set only after a visitor has given a specific, informed, and freely given consent through the cookie banner, and that consent can be withdrawn at any time using the method described in Section 11. Where local guidance issued by Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs on electronic data processing is updated, Raloden will review this legal basis and amend this section if a different classification becomes appropriate.

5. Strictly necessary session cookie

The file named raloden_session supports basic page behaviour while a reader is actively browsing the site, such as keeping a mobile menu state consistent while navigating between sections during a single visit. This cookie does not contain a name, an email address, or any other directly identifying detail, only a temporary session identifier generated when the browsing session begins and discarded shortly after. It expires automatically when the browser is closed, and in any event no later than four hours after it was first set, and it is not used for any purpose beyond the technical behaviour of the page during that single visit. Because this cookie is necessary for the site to function correctly, it is set regardless of the choice made in the cookie banner described in Section 6, consistent with the legal basis explained in Section 4.

6. Preference cookie for the consent choice itself

The file named raloden_consent records which option a visitor selected in the cookie banner: accept all, accept a selected subset, or functional cookies only. This cookie lasts for twelve months from the date it is set, after which the banner will appear again so the choice can be renewed and reconfirmed. A reader can review or change this choice at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link in the website footer, which reopens the banner without needing to clear any browser data manually. Deleting cookies through a browser's own settings will also remove this stored preference, and the banner will then reappear on the next visit, since the site can no longer see what was previously chosen by that browser.

7. Optional analytics category

If a reader selects the analytics option in the cookie banner, a lightweight measurement file may be set to record a randomly generated visit identifier, the path of the page viewed, an approximate date and time, and broad browser information such as screen width and general device type. This category, where enabled, may persist for up to thirteen months, after which it is renewed only if the visitor's consent choice is still active and has not been withdrawn. The purpose of this category is limited to understanding, in aggregate, which articles and sections are read most often, so that editorial planning can be informed by observed readership patterns rather than assumption. This category remains off for every visitor by default and is only ever activated after an explicit, separate selection in the cookie banner described in Section 6.

8. Optional functional category

Functional cookies, where used, support a specific interface convenience, such as remembering that a reader previously dismissed a particular on-page notice, so that the notice is not shown again for the length of that cookie's lifespan. This category is limited strictly to the interface feature that requested it and does not feed into any analytics or advertising system operated by Raloden or by any third party. A functional cookie set through this category typically lasts for six months and can be reset at any time by choosing "Functional Only" or a different option in the cookie banner. Raloden does not currently use functional cookies to store any content typed into a form field, including the contact form described on the contact page.

9. Named third-party processors and cookies not used on this site

Where the optional analytics category is active, the resulting measurement data is processed on Raloden's behalf by a privacy-oriented analytics provider operating server infrastructure within the Asia-Pacific region, engaged under a written data processing arrangement that limits its use of the data to providing the measurement service itself. Raloden does not use third-party advertising cookies, cross-site tracking pixels, or social-media embed cookies that would allow another company to follow a reader's activity across unrelated websites. The site does not include a general-purpose retargeting tag, and no cookie set on raloden.info is shared with a marketing platform for the purpose of showing personalised advertisements elsewhere on the internet. If a future feature, such as an embedded video player, would introduce a third-party cookie of this kind, this policy will be updated before that feature is switched on, and the new cookie will be described here with its name, purpose, provider, and lifespan.

10. International transfers of cookie-derived data

Where the optional analytics provider named in Section 9 processes data on infrastructure located outside Indonesia, that transfer is governed by a written agreement that requires the provider to apply data protection safeguards materially equivalent to those described in this policy and in the Privacy Policy. Raloden reviews the location of its processors periodically and will note any material change in processing location in the revision log in Section 13. A reader who has questions about where analytics data derived from cookies is processed, or who would like more detail on the safeguards applied to a specific transfer, may contact Raloden using the details in Section 12. No cookie-derived data is transferred to a processor located in a jurisdiction that Raloden has assessed as offering materially weaker protection without an additional contractual safeguard being put in place first.

11. Retention summary table

To make the categories easier to compare at a glance: the session cookie raloden_session lasts only for the current browser session and no more than four hours; the preference cookie raloden_consent lasts twelve months; the optional analytics category, where selected, lasts up to thirteen months; and the optional functional category lasts approximately six months. Each of these periods is a maximum, and a cookie may expire sooner if a reader clears their browser storage manually or changes their consent choice before the stated period ends. None of these periods is extended automatically without a new visit and a fresh, valid consent signal from the reader's browser. This summary is provided for convenience and does not replace the fuller description given in Sections 5 through 8.

12. User rights and how to exercise them

A reader can change or withdraw a cookie choice at any time by selecting "Cookie Settings" in the footer of any page, which reopens the banner described in Section 6 and allows a new selection to be saved immediately without needing to contact Raloden directly. A reader can also use their browser's own settings to block or delete cookies entirely, though doing so may cause the site to forget a previously saved preference and to show the banner again on the next visit. Most desktop and mobile browsers include a cookie or privacy section in their settings menu where individual sites can be reviewed and cleared, and the exact steps vary by browser and are documented by each browser's own publisher. Beyond the cookie-specific controls described here, a reader also holds the broader rights of access, correction, deletion, and objection described in the Privacy Policy, which can be exercised by writing to [email protected].

13. Questions and complaints about cookie use

Questions about this Cookie Policy, or a complaint about how a specific cookie has behaved, can be sent to [email protected], or by post to Jalan Sudirman No. 45, 12930 Jakarta Selatan, DKI Jakarta, Indonesia. A reader may also telephone +62 21 2184 7201 during office hours, Monday through Friday, 09:00 to 17:00 WIB, although a written message is recommended so that the request can be logged and tracked through to a documented resolution. Raloden aims to acknowledge a cookie-related query within five business days and to provide a full response within thirty calendar days, in line with the timelines described in the Privacy Policy. Where a complaint cannot be resolved internally to the reader's satisfaction, the reader retains the right to raise the matter with the competent data protection authority in their own country of residence.

14. Changes to this Cookie Policy

This policy may be updated when a cookie is added, removed, or changed in purpose or lifespan, when a new processor is engaged, or when applicable Indonesian guidance on cookie use is clarified by the relevant authority. When an update is more than a minor wording correction, the "Updated" date at the top of this page will change and a new entry will be added to the revision log in Section 15. A reader who wants to be informed of a substantive change may write to [email protected] to request direct notice of future updates to this document. Continued use of the site after an update takes effect is treated as acknowledgement of the revised policy, without affecting a reader's ability to change their cookie choice at any time through the footer link described in Section 12.
